Some days I love old men wearing hats or babies who have no hair. Some days I love trees alive with pink blossoms, or the foam on the edges of ocean waves, or the moonrise.
Some days I love things. Like today.
1. Today I'm counting down the days until Spring officially arrives (only 9 more to go!) on the 2008 Pentagram Typography calendar, celebrating the fonts of Matthew Carter. In 1977, Carter re-designed one of my favorite fonts, Cochin, which I use in everything. The font for March (above) is called Sophia, which was modeled after sixth-century engravings on ecclesiastical metalwork. Mmm.
2. Today I'm tired of all the sniping and snarling, but I'm keeping the faith with this bright yellow Obama screen print by Blu Lima. What did I ever do before Etsy?
3. Today I felt the need for extra inspiration, so I skipped through the beautiful mind of Maira Kalman, in the pages of her book The Principles of Uncertainty. Page 292: I would love you to come to my party. It will be on a Sunday afternoon. Let's avoid a nighttime party. Who can stand the night? Not I.
4. Today I looked at these Black Calypso Beans from Rancho Gordo and thought: how shockingly beautiful. I scooped them up and let them slip through my fingers. They'll make a wonderful supper dressed with fruity green olive oil and minced rosemary.
