This is interesting: Hyperion wants to help me “whittle” my book choices.
Is it just me, or does the notion of an imprint expressly for women seem sorely unimaginative, not to mention hopelessly broad? So I’m a woman… and therefore I’ll want to read what other… women… want to read?
This might be good news for writers: “I’m a woman! Your imprint is for women! Publish me!” but I’m not clear on what it will do for readers.
Editor Pamela Dorman is quoted as saying: “People are overwhelmed by choice, and what they want is someone who is self-selecting for them.” Do they really? Because I don’t.
Confession: I had to look up the word “imprimatur.”
Something altogether more interesting might be afoot at Viking. Can’t wait to find out what this “utterly unique reading experience” might be…
